Desert Days

Author: Mia

We’ve now been in the desert for several weeks and time has flown by at an accelerated rate unbecoming to productive ideas, creativity, or a general sense of getting one’s unruly s*** together.

That being said, after an initial break-in period for us both, i .e. getting over the rapidity of the unexpected transition and flailing about for a bit, we’ve tried to make the most of our time here, enjoying the snow-capped mountains that surround the desert on three sides, the mostly fuchsia-colored bougainvillea that winds and vines and tumbles over and across walls and yards, the palms, the pools, the mostly warm and dry desert days throughout February and March that have allowed us to swim, walk and bike most days.
I also feel fortunate in spending such a block of time with my wonderful Mother and her wonderful friends., cooking for her (when she allows) or going out as a group to one of the myriad restaurant options in the area for snacks and drinks.

We’ve visited a cat cafe, sampled Tiki Bars, and toured the grounds at Sunnylands, the Annenburg Estate, taking in the beauty of the desert flora and fauna (will post about these separately). Many a day Bill & I will walk the length of El Paseo, the desert’s version of Rodeo Drive, admiring the art, sculptures, flowers and surroundings, rewarding ourselves with an ice coffee at a small Italian-style cafe afterward. But, back to speaking of Italy, I should probably give you all more an idea what’s been going on…
